Introducing Rex, the very first chick that served as the muse for our book. Rex came into the world through an incubator, marking the beginning of our journey with baby chickens. As my boys eagerly awaited the hatching of their other feathered companions, Rex held a special place in their hearts. One day, I stumbled upon a scene that would ultimately inspire the creation of our book, "I Think My Chicken is a Dinosaur!"
But he was just the beginning.....

The Early Days
The early days with baby chicks... I mean raptors... are the best. The chicks are snuggling and want to be held and kept warm. They are fun to with play outside for short periods of time, then they have to go back under the heat lamp.
Those Awkward Teenage Days
The teenage stage of a chicken is my favorite. They look ridiculous as their feathers come in, and they develop this long lanky frame. This is also when their true raptor instincts kick in and they will hunt for bugs and flock together as they run around the yard. But don't blink, because before you know it that teenage stage has passed and you've missed the best awkward family photos.
Where are they now?
It's always a happy/sad day when the chickens are ready to leave their brooding box and join the farm. Our chickens are free-range in a large pasture with a donkey for protection and a coop to go to each night. And even though we may not be ready, they have the instincts and know what to do. Our job raising our little raptors is complete and now we get to enjoy them as they continue to grow and thrive in their own Jurassic Farm!
Let's not forget our herbivores!
